Three Gentle Days on Alonissos

Three days are enough to understand the rhythm of Alonissos if you resist the temptation to overfill them. Build each day around one main idea—village, coast, protected sea—and leave generous gaps for swimming and long meals.

Day 1 — Patitiri, first swim and Old Alonissos

  • Morning: arrive in Patitiri, settle in and walk the harbour.
  • Afternoon: choose an easy nearby swim at Rousoum Gialos or another accessible cove.
  • Evening: head to Old Alonissos before sunset and stay for dinner.

Day 2 — East-coast coves

Make this your swimming day. Start early with Kokkinokastro, Leftos Gialos or Chrisi Milia, then continue north only if you still want to move. The best version of the day usually involves fewer stops and a longer lunch.

Day 3 — Into the Marine Park

Book a responsible boat excursion or diving experience and spend the day understanding the protected archipelago. The point is not to chase wildlife sightings; it is to experience the scale and quiet of the marine landscape.

Where to base yourself

  • Patitiri: easiest for ferries, buses and boat departures.
  • Old Alonissos: strongest evening atmosphere and village character.
  • Steni Vala: quieter marina feel and convenient for the northeast coast.
  • Rousoum Gialos: useful compromise between a swimmable bay and access to Patitiri.

One rule for the whole trip

Do less each day than you think you should. Alonissos rewards time spent in one place far more than constant movement.
